Peter Claussen’s core areas of interest are the poiesis and autopoiesis of coupled social and technical systems, which he explored through 30 years of management at BMW AG. For BMW, Mr. Claussen designed and redesigned production systems including Car Assembly, Automation and IT, and Tooling and Installation Technology. He led the planning, design, and development of the BMW Plant in Leipzig, and was subsequently its Director and from 2007 coordinated additionally their manufacturing operations in China. He was President of the ‘Automotive Cluster East Germany ACOD and member of the boards of directors including Bund-Länder Gesellschaft IIC, Industrial Initiative for Central Germany, Leipzig University, Saxony Automotive Supplier. Since leaving BMW in 2009, Mr. Claussen has continued to work as an academic and consultant. He serves as Visiting Lecturer at Dresden Technical University; sits on boards of Fraunhofer Gesellschaft IFF and ‘Peter Wezel Foundation’ Theatre Leipzig; and now spends half his week eco-farming a recently acquired property, working in the mud, growing potatoes, and harvesting hay.
