Join the Institute for Public Knowledge on September 4th at 5:30 PM for a book talk with Sasha Abramsky. He will discuss his new book Chaos Comes Calling: The Battle Against the Far-Right Takeover of Small-Town America with Jeff Sharlet.

Sasha Abramsky is a long-time political journalist and book author who has spent the last thirty years exploring the American political and social justice landscape. He has written extensively on poverty, on criminal justice, on immigration, and on the rise of hard-right and alt-right political movements. Abramsky, who writes regularly for The Nation, is the author of several books, including Inside Obama’s Brain, The American Way of Poverty, The House of 20,000 Books, Jumping at Shadows, and, most recently, Little Wonder: The Fabulous Story of Lottie Dod, the World’s First Female Sports Superstar.

Jeff Sharlet is the bestselling author of  The Undertow: Scenes from a Slow Civil War, a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award and a New York Times Notable Book of 2023. His other books include The Family and C Street, adapted into a Netflix documentary series, This Brilliant Darkness, and Sweet Heaven When I Die. His writing and photography have appeared frequently in Vanity Fair, for which he is a contributing editor, and Virginia Quarterly Review, for which he is an editor at large. He is also a contributor to many periodicals, including The New York Times Magazine, Esquire, GQ–for which his reporting on LGBTQ+ rights in Russia won a National Magazine Award–and Harper’s, for which his reporting on Christian nationalism won the Outright International Outspoken Award and the Molly Ivins Prize. Sharlet is the Frederick Sessions Beebe ’35 Professor in the Art of Writing at Dartmouth College.
