Artist Talk | Norell Giancana

The Race and Public Space working group at NYU’s Institute for Public Knowledge and the Metropolitan Studies Program invite you to a screening and conversation with filmmaker Norell Giancana.

Norell holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Chicago. Her research centers on the sexual politics and aesthetic sensibilities that have historically defined African American print magazines, especially those conceived and produced by African American women.

Norell has created and produced films and visual installations for BET and InStyle among other prominent media outlets and publications. Her work includes incisive commentary on some of the most prolific talents in contemporary art, including Kehinde Wiley, Wangechi Mutu, Kara Walker, and Mickalene Thomas.

This screening and conversation will be moderated by Michael Ralph, associate professor in the Department of Social and Cultural Analysis and Director of Metropolitan Studies at New York University.
