This event is a live discussion that will be live-streamed on Youtube and Twitter. Guests can pose questions via Twitter.
The Institute for Public Knowledge Working Group on the Global New Right hosts a conversation with Talia Lavin, journalist and author of the new book Culture Warlords (Hachette), about her journey into the dark web of white supremacy. Lavin will be in conversation with A.J. Bauer, visiting assistant professor in the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication at NYU and co-editor of News on the Right (Oxford).
Talia Lavin is every skinhead’s worst nightmare: a loud and unapologetic Jewish woman, acerbic, smart, and profoundly anti-racist, with the investigative chops to expose the tactics and ideologies of online hatemongers. She is a Harvard University alum and freelance writer with nearly 114,000 Twitter followers (including Joss Whedon, AOC, and Chrissy Teigen) who has had bylines in The New Yorker, The New Republic, The New York Times Review of Books, Washington Post, Village Voice, and more.
A.J. Bauer, PhD, is a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Media, Culture and Communication at NYU. He is co-editor of News on the Right (Oxford) and his work has appeared in American Journalism, Columbia Journalism Review, The Guardian, TV Guide and elsewhere.
