Zhe Yu Lee is a PhD Candidate at the Department of Geography, University of Wisconsin-Madison. He is completing a dissertation on the influence and legacy of mid-20th century American rural social science on Indonesia’s two largest agricultural universities and in effect, the Indonesian government’s approach to the “non-technical” aspects of the country’s rural life. He has broader interests in studying the contribution of the US Midwest to the relationship between (social) science and state power from the late 19th century onwards. Zhe Yu has a BA with double majors in Geography and Environmental Studies from Macalester College.
